    Major plumbing problems- toilet overflowing
The basement of my house was recently renovated and a bathroom was installed. The main plumbing line is located underground between the shower and the toilet.

About a month ago, there was a clog in the toilet. I plunged for about 5 minutes until the toilet overflowed with everything disgusting. Anytime water ran in the house, the toilet would overflow again. The bathtub/shower also filled up with sewage. Neither the toilet or the shower would drain. A plumber came and snaked the shower. Next, he snaked the line located outside. He located the clog and removed it. He said it was a clog in the main line and to avoid putting anything down the toilet that could cause this again. Over the next few weeks, I would occasionally notice a slight sewage smell in the bathroom but didn't think much of it.

A few days ago, I noticed there was no water in the toilet. When I tried to flush it, it filled up with water and did not drain. I plunged and plunged but nothing happened. After trying to flush it again, it overflowed with what looked like mud and the shower filled up. Both drained after about 15 minutes of being left alone. When I tried to flush the toilet, it appeared to still be clogged.

A plumber came the next morning and when he flushed the toilet, it appeared the clog had worked its way out. He could not get the toilet or shower to back up. He snaked the outline line found nothing. He said it was probably a false alarm and to try to reduce my water usage.

Last night, after getting out of the shower, the toilet started to bubble and all the water drained. The shower started bubbling, too. When I tried to flush the toilet, it filled up and eventually drained. After about 30 minutes, the toilet successfully flushed and everything seemed fine again.

When I woke up this morning, everything was fine. I ran the washing machine and then noticed that the toilet and shower were bubbling and the toilet water was drained. It wouldn't flush again.

The plumber thinks that there may be an issue where the pipes connect at the main line under my bathroom floor, but when snaked, there is nothing blocking the line. No one seems to have any idea what could be going on and I'm not sure what the next step should be.

it overflowed with what looked like mud
Your plumber should nave picked up on that and sent a Sewer Cam through your system. Mud means a broken line somewhere. Any time you see bubbles that tells you that there's a blockage downstream from the bubbles. Have your system checked for a broken pipe, good luck, tom
