    If the half wall is going from the floor up there is no problem removing it. It is not supporting anything above it.

    The columns are supporting the structure above and can not be removed unless the support girder is large enough to do the job. U will have to get a certified architect or structure engineer to determine this.

    I agree with Chuck, no issue removing the half wall but you need to know if the columns are decorative or load bearing. If they carry a load a beam or lambeam would have to be sized to span the room.

    I just bought a house. It was built in 1950. The original owners added a living and breakfast area to the back of the house. There's a half wall dividing the 2. There are at least 7 to 10 banister-looking columns. I'm wondering if I could take them Out completely or at all?
