How do I stabilize the free standing end of a half wall
I am removing part of the living room staircase wall which will allow more light into the stairwell and be an aesthetic improvement for the area. My question is how do I stabilize the open end on a half wall at the base of the stairs end at the hall door? I can affix the bottom edge to the stair support.

Nail a 2X6, between last stud at bootom of stairs and nest stud back, as high as possible and still be able to nail into stair stringer. Do this also to next stud in.

Screw these blocks into stair stringer. Use screws 1/4'' shorter then thickness of 2X6 and stringer so they don't come out on stair way side. U will have to remove s/r on side of wall away from stairs.

    Good luck

What type of floor do you have? If wood, do you have access to the under side?
