Creaking Shower?
My townhouse is almost 3 years old. Lately when we take showers in the master bathroom there is a loud creaking noise under the shower. The noise has probably been there for over a year but in the last month has gotten louder. Is this something we should be worried about or is it a normal thing that happens when a house is settling?

You have described a plastic shower base that the installer failed to bed when he installed it. Does the floor give a bit when you step into it? Let me know , Tom
PS- I moved your post into The Plumbing Page where other experts can see,

Yes, it does give a little bit when stepped on near the drain. Thank you for moving the post to the correct spot - I wasn't sure if it was a plumbing or construction issue.

Not a good sign.
Bedding a shower floor gives nit support, We do this at installation. We puddle cement or mortar under the base, Especially around the drain. If the floor gives a bit around the drain it will, in time. Rupture the drain seal and you will have a leak. Would it be possible for you to get under the base to bed it in? Let me know, Tom

It doesn't look like we could do that without tearing the whole thing apart. Is this something that should be covered under our warranty?

That you'll have to check. This isn't something that went bad, This is something the installer failed to do upon installation. You're not in any situation yet but if the shower ever starts to leak the first thing I would check is the drain seal. It's easy to replace with Plumbers Putty and is a job any homeowner can do. Good luck, Tom

Thank you so much for your help. I'll look into the warranty to see what it covers.

Is the floor under the shower open below like in a crawl space or basement? If so I have a easy fix, even if there is a finished ceiling below.

I read a response you wrote a year ago which seems to apply to our situation. I am now hearing loud creaking noises in the walls or floor/ceiling. Your response indicated that it is the expanding and contracting of pipes... would that still be accurate even if we're hearing it when water hasn't...

I have been very paranoid since an overflow we had a few months ago. It was the bathtub in the upstairs bathroom. It flowed all thorugh the bathroom but didn't make it onto the hall carpet. There was no caulking around the toilet. It leaked through the downstairs ceiling. It didn't get into any...
