    i for got how to set this up
    class scheduling
    lam university's math department offers two courses: Finite Math and Applied Calculus.Each section of finite Math has 60 student, and each section of applied calculus has 40 students.The department will offer a total of 210 sections in a semester, and 5000 students would like to take a math course. How many sections of each course should the department offer in order to fill all sections and accommodate all students.


    does anyone know how to set this up into a system of linear equations

    You have two equations in two unknowns - one equation regarding how many sections there are and the other regarding how many students there are. Take a shot at setting these equations and post back with what you get. By the way - the numbers you provided don't make sense, given that 5000 students divided into sections of 40 and 60 students means at most only 5000/40 = 125 sections are needed.
