    Gas smell coming from washing machine phroid files in laundry room
    I have a gas smell coming from washing machine. We don't have gas in our house.
    Last year we had a phroid flie problem coming from the same laundry room which is in the basement. Starting to see a couple of those flies again. Would that be a vent or a septic problem? Or do you think it's a broken pipe problem? I'm out of work, hate to have to call a plumber.

    I feel your pain. I just got finished a month long battle with drain flies. The first thing I would is check all your traps, including the floor drain, for a good water seal. You may be smelling sewer gas and that's caused by a lack of water in a trap. Let me know what you find and we'll began a repair. Good luck, Tom
