    400 amp 480 volt service to 200 amp service
    400 amp 480 volt inverter into a 200 amp box.
    Can the inverter be fed less pv to keep it below the 200 amps and not change wire size?

    Well, I for one have NO idea what you are asking.

    Can you elaborate a bit?
    What is a 480v inverter? Is this a PV system?

    Also, IMO this sounds way out of the scope of a DIY job.
