    It depends on where you are at. In the US each state has different laws.

    1. in some states you have to actually walk out the door
    2. in some you have to walk past the register.
    3. in others you just have to hide the object and walk toward the exit.
    4. and in some all you have to do is hide the object, put it in your pocket or bag
