Do u mean vinyl gutters? If u install roofers edge and let it lap into gutter it will keep water from going behind gutters. Roofers edge should be installed against the sheathing.

The vinyl gutters and wood fascia will move (expand and contract at different rates which will cause caulking to crack.

Yes, there should be drip edge that extends past the edge of the roof and the shingles to allow water to clear the fascia boards.

Plastic or vinyl Gutters are attached with brackets about every 2 feet. The problem is that the brackets hold the gutter out away from the fascia board. Gutters properly installed should have the back of the gutter installed behind the drip edge. Simply put plastic/ vinyl gutters require a new piece of flashing/ drip edge. This can be done with a strip of metal about 2-3" wide to go under the shingle and into the gutter. There are no professional gutter contractors that use plastic/vinyl gutters. Seamless gutters are made onsite from a coil of prepainted aluminum, copper, or galvalume. It is very easy to install a seamless gutter under the drip edge. Average price in the USA to have gutters installed is about 500 to 800... materials and labor with matching colors. Plastic is practice!
