My fascia boards are rotting and I want to replace them. I think I want to go with a composite material because it will be low maintenance but it also has to be strong enough to support gutters. I found this stuff in Home Depot called "Tuf Board" and it appears to be a composite. What do you guys think? If you don't like this stuff for fascia, would pressure treated lumber work well?

Here is some info I've found on the stuff from a website and a picture of the label in the store:

"No glamour here! TUF board® is cellular vinyl composite board. It is a perfect replacement for wood in most of non-stress-bearing applications. TUF board® looks and feels like wood. It is better than clear and premium lumber. TUF board® is similar to MDF because it contains a type of wood flour similar to that found in MDG, but MDF is 100% compressed wood flour whereas TUF board® is primarily PVC.

Because the wood flour in TUF board® is completely encapsulated by the PVC, this material will not swell, rot, or delaminate like wood, MDF, or MDO. It is lightweight, moisture resistant, resistant to many chemicals, and less susceptible to warping. The edges are much smoother than traditional EPVC, making it easier to seal and finish.

TUF board® panels can be cut, machined, nailed, glued, and screwed just like wood. The panels can be finished with any good quality primer or paint, are fire resistant (UL-94 V0, 5V, HB), and exhibit much better machining qualities than wood. Available thicknesses: 16mm (5/8”), 19mm (3/4”), and 25mm (63/64”).

Hi Logan I'm starting to feel like a pig hogging up the answers here. To tell you the truth no 2# pine is fine for any fascia board as long as it covered with alumi capped. Standard wood last for a VERY long time if its capped.

Now I see why on your other post suggesting the L shaped fascia board.

Treated is never used for a fascia board in any standard construction. Never seen it in my 30 years of building if metal capping is done.

They main objective is to be done with painting behind gutters...

Thanks 21 boat, it seems like my last two threads have kind of merged. Don't worry about hogging. From reading other threads you've responded to, I can tell you know your stuff. I appreciate all the help that you and the other guys have given. One of these days I will have to post some pics of all the work I've done to my house in the last two years... Logan.
