    Retire law enforcement & military
I went to a town board meeting, requested that my privacy act be respected. Spoke about the illegal drug activity in my town. They printed my full name and everything I said and posted it in the newspaper and on line for the drug dealers to silence me and my family.

You requested privacy at an open Town Board meeting? Did the Town Board agree not to disclose your ID? Did they? I very much doubt it.

It sounds like an open meeting - anyone could have provided your ID info to just about anyone else.

Many local and state governments have "open meeting" laws. If this town is one of them, they would not have been able to keep your information secret even if they had wanted to. Towns and cities are sued for alleged violations of open meeting laws all the time.

When you requested that your "privacy act be respected", they should have immediately told you that.

You can request privacy but they are really under no obligation to give it to you, There is little privacy in public statements.

A rule of thumb, and the reason why many crimes are never reported, just don't say it,

You will never get privacy at a public meeting, anyone at the meeting, can report on what you said, if the news paper is there, they can report it,
