    Dog can't/won't sleep
My dog is afraid of thunder and fireworks. The last few nights, we have had a big mixture of both. Now he won't go to sleep. One minute he will be in my room, the next someone else's, and the minute after that he will be under the desk in our office. And he doesn't fall asleep. He has fallen asleep in the bathroom, well that is where we found him this morning. What should I do? Does anyone think they know what might be wrong with him and what I can do to make him sleep/calm down?

Ignore his fears. If you feed into his fear of loud noises, than he will just get worse and worse.

Ignore his meandering from room to room.. If you have small kids, close their room doors.

If this were my dog, I would enclose him in my room and possibly a crate.

If he is just a nervous wreck, give him some melatonin. It helps them just relax and get over his fears for the night.

But, do not, under any circumstances... comfort him. Comforting him will only re-assure him that his behavior is OK and the next time a storm comes rolling through, his behaviors will be worse. Just ignore him and continue on as you always do. He will learn to deal with it himself and either get over it, or won't bother you about it.

Any way to get a dog to sleep in? [ 5 Answers ]

My dog ALWAYS wakes me up at exactly 7am EVERY morning. I don't even have to set an alarm. Well... today started daylight savings time. Which means she wakes me up at 6am. Its also very annoying on the rare day I get to sleep in. Any ideas about how to get her to sleep later?
