Hello all, I was wondering is it normal for a twenty-three year old to have a decreasing sex drive. I have a two year old son, and lately my husband wants to have sexual intercourse all the time... but I really don't have the energy. Is this normal?

It is normal if you are really stressed and busy. But I am 22 and just found out the cause of my decrease was my Birth control. Sex used to be great, within the last year or two its been hell. I know I was a disappointment to him and myself. I was always tired, it hurt to have sex, I didn't want it. A number of problems. I have been off it for a month and a half and I will never go back. I am happier than ever and doing it so much I am losing weight.

I am on birth control also... what were you on? I am on the depo shot do you think that could be the problem... becuase before depo I loved sex..

robertsqueen, lowered sex drive is one of the side effects of the depo shot. Please check this link:

Hey I was on Nuva Ring the last year. It is the lowest dosage of hormones that you can get. I have tried just about all of the stuff out there though. Nothing except getting off helped me. The patch, pills, shot, and ring were all bad for me. If you don't want another child there are some other choices like condoms and spermicides. They have a certain spermicide in the form of a little paper that you put in and it dissolves, its less messy and can be done at minimum 15 minutes before sex. I think it’s correctly called a contraceptive film- they have them at Wal-Mart, and very inexpensive. If you two are certain no more kids, they even have a procedure he can have to cut the tube that carries the sperm, its done in a few minutes and he's back to normal in a day or two.Good luck.

I have to agree about the birth control pill too. I was on micrgynon for 5 years, and my sex drive went so down hill compared to how I was before. I believe it's a side effect.

Now that I'm off it, been of it for almost 3 yrs, I'm back to normal ;)
Hubby likes it more :D

Thank you guys I thought I was the only person that was going through this.. I never thought my birth control could effect my sex drive. I go to the clinic next Tuesday and I am going to look at other options. So thank you guys so much, because this has been a problem between my husband and me... I thought it was all me... but I don't think so anymore after looking at that link.

Give yourself time for your libido to come back after going off depo. Depo killed my sex drive -- by which I mean, I never wanted to have sex for various reasons -- and after I went off it, it took me more than a year for me to have a libido worth mentioning. Now, two years later, it's basically back to normal.

Like you, I thought it was just me, I thought I was a terrible girlfriend/wife, my partner thought I found him unattractive and his self esteem has suffered. I did know that a change in libido was a possible side effect, but I don't think of "100% to zero" as just a side effect. I figured nobody would prescribe me something that would obliterate my sex drive without warning me first. That was stupid of me.

Hang in there, it'll get better...
