    building a privacy fence
I was wondering if installing 4 x 2 stringers on a privacy fence, broad side up, will be problematic. After having completed this part of my fence in this manner, a neighbour told me they should be narrow side up. If this would compromise the durability of the fence, I would go through the tedious process of removing them and starting over again.

    Thanks for your help

Neighbor is right... narrow side up both minimizes the water pooling and strengthens the fence... they WILL bow badly in a fairly short time broad side up. Just from the weight of the fence alone... not to mention the rain water that pools on one side inducing warpage for that reason alone.

Level the Posts for Vinyl Privacy Fence [ 1 Answers ]

I live in Southern California. I don't have the tools, or physical ability to put in a vinyl fence. The contractors workers told me that they can't make the posts and fence level at the top. I believe that they don't know how or they don't want to take the extra time to make sure the posts are...

Privacy Fence Replacement [ 4 Answers ]
