Kenmore washer stopped with water in it
Washer stopped at the rinse cycle. Motor clicks to come on and immediately clicks off. This went on all night unbeknownst to me.

    What do I do?

It sounds as if your pump is clogged. The clicking might be the thermal cutout on the motor protecting it from overheadting.

I'd start by checking the drain pump for an obstruction.

    Good Luck,

Thank you for responding. How would I go about checking the drain pump to remove the obstruction?

    1. First, I'd unplug the washer so it won't start up while you have your hands in its innards.
    2. Locate the pump (generally a plastic round thingy) and it should have a small belt that connects it to the motor.
    3. Loosen either the pump mount or the motor mount (one or the other) and slip the belt off the pulley.
    4. Try to turn the pump's pulley using your hand. It may be a little hard to turn if it is full of water, but if it won't turn at all, then it may have something stuck in it.
    5. If you think the pump is jammed, you'll have to take it out. This can get real wet.
    6. Remove as much water from the tub as you can by siphoning or dipping it out.
    7. Get a bucket and get it close to the hose that goes between the tub and the pump
    8. Remove the hose clamp on that hose and aim for the bucket fast!
    9. Once the excitement is over, remove the other hose from the pump.
    10. Remove the pump and see if there is anything obviously stuck inside.
    11. If there is, you can probably use the old pump
    12. Reverse all the steps to re-assemble.

    I hope this helps.

Is there a specific reason you gave me a negative rating? Your problem description was somewhat general in nature, and I gave you my best guess.

Very helpful thank you! Only thing I did different was I drained the machine as much as possible first and I took the pump and flushed it out using the sink faucet for your step 11 and presto / viola! The issue went away!
