    Wiring a receptacle and light switch in the same box off one circuit
    I have one hot lead coming into a 2 gang box. It has a light switch and a double receptacle. The problem is the receptacle is dead. I wired the receptacle and then jumped it to the switch and the light works but the receptacle has nothing and I wired it again and went from the switch to the receptacle and still nothing at the receptacle. This box is the end of the run so my question is can it be wired correctly with only one lead coming in and if so how?

    What wires are in this box?
    What was there originally?

    I bet it was a switch loop where there was a constant hot and a switched hot, but no neutral.
    Remember, white is not always a neutral, especially in a switch box.

    Originally there were 2 switches but I moved one switch to a totally different circuit. When checking for current I noticed that the white is wired hot on the lead coming in.

    Find which wire is the actual nuetral (Should be white) and the hot wire (Should be black) and wire the hot to one of the terminals on the switch. From the other side of the switch, pigtail off and run one black wire back to the light and one to the copper or gold colored screws on the recepticles.
