    Trying to conceive after BC
Just came off birth control Sunday. Trying to conceive hopefully within like 6 months? What are the best ways to do this or suggestions. I know nothing is for sure but some of you must have some insight. Thanks!

Some women like to have a preconception visit to their gyn to ask questions and review any medical history that may be pertinent.

Best way to start would be to discuss with your partner ways the two of you can make changes to your lifestyle that would be healthy. For example, stop smoking if that that pertains to either of you. Look at the foods you eat and what you drink and make any changes you know would be wise. Start some daily exercise so that you can be in good condition when pregnancy occurs. Start taking prenatal vitamins or vitamins that have at least 400 mcg of folic acid. Many foods and some drinks are fortified as well. Look at any possible situations at your jobs that may be potentially harmful... for example working around certain chemicals. Changes for dad are just as important as those for mom to do what he can to insure the health and quality of the sperm being produced.

Check the various ways of determining when you might be most likely to be ovulating. Basal body temperature and charting, for example, can take a few months to see a pattern develop. There are a number of good websites for information to help you prepare, as well as books available. One great book is Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

When you do get ready to start, keep in mind that it can take awhile. Most couples will become pregnant within the first year of trying, but some will take longer. Focus on enjoying each other and not as much on the calendar (although that is obviously important as well). The point being is that for some couples it can become too much of a chore after awhile when the emphasis is too much on the final goal and not enough on enjoying the journey... :)

I have nothing to add to Doula's post, she covered it all. I only want to wish you luck, and tell you not to get discouraged. It took me 7 months to become pregnant with my son, and 10 months with my daughter, and they were both definitely worth the wait. :)

Sending baby dust your way. Let us know how it goes. :)
