    I gave my brother half of my house can he make me sell it?
    My deceased father left me his home in his will. Well I felt bad for my brother so I put the home in mine and my brother name. I live in the home .my brother told me I could live in the home long as I lived but soon as I put it in his name too he wants to sell it for the money .Will I have to sell it now ?

    He could force a partition sale. So buy it back from him

    Excuse me, but what did you find inaccurate about my response? A part owner CAN force a partition sale. So, if you want to keep the property you may be forced to buy back his share.

    I am sorry by telling experts they are wrong ( when they are perfectly right) will stop other experts from helping you. I am sorry you are not going to hear the answers you want, but these are the facts.

    1. you never should have put his name on the deed
    2. you did, so the minute you did, he owned 1/2 of the equity in the home.
    3. but he also gets 1/2 of the costs and debts.
    4. yes it is very possible for him to force the sale of the house, since you did not put anything in writing, allowing you to live there for the rest of your life.

    So Scott is correct, you will now have to try to buy out his 1/2 of the house, and sorry to be rude guess you are not feeling as sorry for him now ?
