Doctors, Nurses, or anyone educated in the medical field please help me...
I am supposed to be 19 weeks pregnant as of Saturday my last period was November 19th I had an ultra sound at 7 weeks and 2 days everything was fine and measuring correctly at 17 weeks they listened to my baby's heart beat with the doppler and it was 147. 3 days a go I went to the docter for an ultra sound they could not find a heart beat and said the baby was only measuring 9 weeks so where did the 147 come from? Could it be twins and they just haven't seen the other baby? The docter had no explanation for how the nurse got a heart beat because he said a baby at 9 weeks cannot even pick up on the doppler.

I think you might have a pair of twins.

What is your medical background to be able to answer this way?

Twins wouldn't explain the measurements, or the conflicting information.
What has your doctor said? Did he give an explanation? He would be the best one to ask, as he has access to the other ultrasounds and all the tests etc.

Typically a doppler will not pick up a heart beat at 9 weeks, but an ultrasound can. It's possible that the nurse picked up your heartbeat and the doppler doubled it. This can happen if the nurse isn't attentive.
It is possible that you are in the process of miscarrying. Keep in close contact with your doctor.

I guess I didn't make my question completely clear, I am aware of the fact that I have lost the baby that is measuring 9 weeks I am scheduled for a D and C Wednesday that is not the issue, the issue is that I want to know why they got a heart beat of 147 two weeks a go and I want to know if I could possibly have another baby in there that they didn't see this is the only ultra sound I have had since 7weeks

This is the only ultra sound I have had, I am aware of the fact that I have had a missed miscarriage I just want to know why at 17 weeks they found a heart beat of 147

I really wish I could give you an answer. It could be as J_9 (a labor and delivery nurse) suggested. It could be that they picked up your heartbeat.
If a twin wasn't detected on ultrasound, then that's not likely. Also, if there were a twin, a heartbeat would have been detected during the last scan.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I've been there. It's not easy, and I know that you want to grasp at straws, grasp at any hope. I get that. But looking back and questioning things isn't going to help you deal with what you have to do now.
If you still have questions then your doctor really is the best one to provide the answers, and you're paying him/her to give you those answers. We can only guess because we don't have the actual info. We only have your version of it, not the ultrasound results, or anything else.
I wish you all the best, and I'm so sorry for your loss. :(

When did you find out you lost the baby? Most likely they got a heart rate of 147 two weeks ago prior to you losing the baby.
I am very sorry for your loss.

I am sorry for your loss, that was where I knew the answer in part was going but did not know how to head in that direction. I know you are wanting answers but often there are none that can made sense. It would appear an incorrect reading or malfunction in equipment perhaps

Chuck, I knew where this was heading too. I've been there. I just didn't want to say it out loud. It's never easy to hear that the life you were expecting, were looking forward to, is gone.
To the OP. We may not be able to tell you why, but we can be here to help you deal with it now. Please come back. Many of us have been were you are now. I lost my baby at 12 weeks. He/she died at 10 weeks gestation. I almost died too. It was by far the most horrific thing I've ever gone through, and I've been to hell and back a few times in my life.
If you need a shoulder, we're here. Just say the word.

In response to J 9's post I found out I had lost the baby Thursday when I was 18 weeks and 5 days pregnant they said the baby was only measuring 9 weeks that still doesn't explain why at 17 weeks they got a heart beat of 147 on the doppler unless it was like you said my heart beat I couldn't have lost the baby after that because I was 17 weeks and they are saying I lost it at 9 weeks, I do not have a false sense of hope I am completely aware of the fact that my baby is gone and I am not expecting a miracle I am just wanting to know if the twin thing is possible my family and friends are confused as well by the 147 heart beat 2 weeks ago and my Docter even seemed as though it puzzled him because he was confident that the baby had lost it's heart beat at 9 weeks I have read that a baby can stop developing way before it looses it's heart beat but the doppler still would not have picked it up with a 9 week measurement

I have to admit, but also tell you that I'm not a medical expert, that the math doesn't add up to me either. I've done it over and over, and the fact that you heard a heart beat 2 weeks ago, when you were supposedly 17 weeks (I say supposedly because it's not an exact science, but even then, there's a huge gap between 17 weeks gestation and 7 weeks, which is what you would have been two weeks ago if the baby died at 9 weeks), just doesn't make sense.
I even PM'd J (J_9 ) about it. Something I didn't know. The heart can continue beating even once the baby stops growing in utero. So it's entirely possible, from what I've understood, that you could have heard a heartbeat 2 weeks ago, even though the baby stopped growing at 9 weeks, and now has passed. Hopefully J is still online and can answer this better than I can.
Again, I'm so very sorry for your loss, and I want to re-post that we're here if you need to talk, vent, cry, or just scream. Been there, done it. I know what you're going through now, and even with answers, it's not easy, and never will be.
