Child support increase--how to get it in Louisiana?
How do I go about getting a child support increase in Louisiana? My son is 16 years old I have received $250 per month since he was about 3 years old. Things are a whole lot more exspensive now, his father makes a dramatic difference in pay since having the $250 appointed 13 years ago & never offers to do anything extra. He has no other children, only himself to support. My husband pays $700 per month for his child, makes less money & supports my son, and our two together as well.

You go to the court that issued the original support order and petition for a modification.

Agree, you file a motion in the court where the order is from to have the amount evaluated.

I would think the increase in the cost of living was not unexpected, and therefore not a material change in circumstances. In fact the official inflation rate is quite low (artificially so, but that is another issue), probably lower than one would have expected.

On the other hand, if the father is making much more than what he was making then, the court should order increased child support.

As long as the custodial parent petitions the court for a modification. If you haven't asked for a modification in 13 years, that is on you.

I have tried to keep the peace, and not be the horrible vindictive Mother that seems out for nothing but money, however, I'm tired of being the sole provider of everything, and nice has gotten me nowhere. 13 years later I've had enough, felt I needed to explain this.
