Child Support Arrears in Louisiana After Step-Parent Adoption
I filed for my stepson's adoption on November 29, 2010 and the adoption was granted on February 2, 2011. The bio mom was in arrears at the time of adoption. Support Enforcement is taking the case, but they are claiming that bio-mom's support obligation ended on Nov. 29, 2010 (retroactive to the date of filing). I don't see how this is the case as bio-mom's parental rights were intact until February 2, 2011. I was not considered his mother before then. Never heard of and ADOPTION being retroactive to the original filing date. Any insight or law on this? Thank You
