    Fructose time limit; creatine
Hello, I read your post stating that fructose is the only known substance that will break down EtG. Since I drank about 70 oz. Of beer on Monday night (3.12), and will be urine tested at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday (3.15). I've been drinking lots of water and alternating it with beverages containing high fructose corn syrup. Does the fructose only work the day the alcohol is consumed, or does it continue to work: I.e. if I keep drinking sodas will the EtG level keep decreasing up until the test? After all this gross soda drinking and water drinking (plus lots of exercise), should I supplement with creatine, or will a simple good meal a few hours before the test take care of it. (I am in my 40s, overweight yet active female.) I have never messed up like this before, and never will again! Thank you for your assistance.

There is a substantial body of evidence indicating that fructose accelerates metabolism of ethanol (EtOH). This seems to be related to enhancement of re-oxidation in the liver. To the best of my knowledge there are no studies demonstrating a direct relationship between fructose and EtG elimination.

The same is true for eating. A substantial meal, during or after alcohol intake, will accelerate the EtOH elimination. That is due to several factors but certainly includes increased blood flow to the liver.

EtG synthesis and elimination are poorly understood phenomena. Never been adequately studied. However, EtG is a direct metabolite of EtOH and therefore production necessarily ceases when the alcohol is no longer present. It could be inferred that anything accelerating EtOH removal likewise shortens EtG elimination. That is indirect of course
