    Time limit on judgments
    Do you know if there is a time limit for collection, if a judgement was file in small claims court.

    Yes, the time limit is six years from the date of the debt. A judgment cannot be filed after that time. That is what it states in my previous post.

    I understand that in my case a judgement was given, let me explain my situation. I had a provical offences conviction that resulted in a fine in 2002, they filed for a judgement in small claims court Nov 2004, I went to an examination on march 25, 2011, the judge put it over until June 17, 2011, so I could talk to a lawyer. So my question is, if the judgement was filed in court in 2004 is it still collectible after 6 years. I can't seem to find a judgement limitation in any of the acts.

    Maybe you should do what the judge intended... talk to a lawyer, because I don't know what the limitations is on a judgment, but if you are already in court, then I guess it can happen.

    First, its not a good idea to piggyback your question on someone else's, So I've moved your question to its own thread.

    I believe in Canada, a judgment lasts for 10 years and is renewable for at least another 10.

    So the judgement is still valid.
