You have a seven week old baby, all babies sleep most of the time. That is when they grow. Don't worry about the pot belly. As soon as your baby starts growing, and it will be fast, pot belly will disappear.

Please tell us what breed of puppy you have and don't forget a vet check to line up all vaccinations. Educate yourself on everything your new baby needs!

Your little girl sounds normal but the vet will check her over when he gives the shots. Have you or anyone in your house had a dog before? There are several people here that can help you train her. Since you can reach the internet you can access tons of info about raising a pup. Raise a Puppy

Have you ever had a puppy? Socializing and training a pup can be fun but difficult.

Puppies have spurts of energy, and then they sleep. Since this baby is very young, too young to even be away from mom at this point, that's what she'll do.

She'll get more active as she grows.

Pot belly = worms. Get your puppy wormed.. Probably a couple of times.

She's probably extra sleepy because the worms are stealing all her food. She has no energy.

You need to get her on a vaccination plan. She needs be protected from the deadly diseases like parvo and distemper and probably leptospirosis. Also, now is a great time to start heartworm prevention.

In a few months, your pup will be ready to be spayed... Spaying your pup will prevent cancers from forming later in her life.

    Good luck :)

Good points Lucky. Worms are a concern, and shots are a must.

But also, a 7 week old puppy will tire more quickly than a dog a few months old or older. I remember the puppy stage well. Those little spurts of energy, followed by the 2 hour nap. We called them the puppy spurts. :)

Also, many puppy's still have that rounded belly from nursing, especially at the very young age of 7 weeks. Our Chewy had a rounded belly and we got him at 12 weeks, and he had been de-wormed. It can just be baby fat.

But the fact that this pup was homed at 7 weeks of age, well, you're most likely dead on accurate. I doubt this pup had any vaccines from the "breeder" and I use that term loosely. I also doubt it was de-wormed. No legit breeder would sell their pups at that age, so it's safe to say that this backyard breeder or puppymill didn't do any of the necessary vaccinations and treatments before giving this pup to its new home.

In other words, I completely agree. :)
