I am confused by which info I should use from my 1098t...
I have information on my 1098T in box 2 and not in box 1. Do I enter this information on the form 8863? I also have information in box 5. Do I subtract that amount (box 5) from the amount in box 2 and enter that total? What is the difference between box 1 and box 2? Can I use the amount in box 2 for the educational credit? I want to do the right thing - please help~

The BEST way to enter the Form 1098-T is to use a good tax software like TurboTax or TaxAct and go through the INTERVIEW process on the software when you enter the data. I can enter the data direct on the worksheets, but I do it professionally and have had time to learn the quirks of the system. Following the interview process is the BEST way to avoid missing something important.
