Dear expert
I want to choose a pump (High pressure pump, Centrifugal pump or Horizontal submersible motor pumps) for irrigation purpose, which one is more effective form cost, consumptive electrics and technical viewpoints?
Situation:
I want to design a conveyance pipe line which conveys water form the river to 260 meter above.
If you would prefer Horizontal submersible motor pumps, how does it install? Does it need a horizontal shroud in its hoze? How can I get information about this kind of shroud?

For my two cents, it depends on how much water you want and how far down your water is. The more water you need, and the deeper you have to go to get water, the better a sub pump looks. Never needs priming, as well. But with a shallower water table, the jet pump could be a good option. It has the advantage of being about 10 times easier to service/replace.

Hey Jlisenbe. The OP is pulling water from a river and pumping 260 meters,78 feet) to the terminal. He didn't say if this is a horizontal, vertical or simply a raised run. My pump experience has mostly been with shallow well sprinkler systems so perhaps one of you other experts could give him more information. Regards, Tom

The river kind of changes things. If you can get power down to the river, then I would think a jet pump would do. I wonder if he means it is 260 meters to the point of use, or there is 260 meters of elevation to overcome. That would be kind of important.

It really comes down to deciding how much water you need in the sense of gpm. Once you know the elevation and length of pipe run, then you could spec a pump.

260 meters would be roughly 780 feet. I think, Speedball, you left off the zero.
