Spirits in my house?
We bought our first house in November 2011. We have gotten to know our neighbours as on both sides of us the people have been living there for 20 odd years. Apparently a doctor built the house about 30 years ago, and nothing out of the ordinary was mentioned. Specifically in the main bedroom where we sleep, I have felt a presence. Then I opened the cupboard door the other day, and a photo fell out. I thought odd, and put it back in the cupboard on a different shelf. It fell out twice after that again. I took it and put it in the top drawer of another cupboard after that. Then - 2 nights ago, I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. We never switch lights on as you can see all right with the street lights from outside. As I walked back into the bedroom, the exact spot in front of the cupboard where the photo fell out, a grey-ish figured appeared. It stopped me dead in my tracks. After a couple of seconds it was gone, but I couldn't sleep the rest of the night. A couple of times as well when I've been busy in the kitchen with my back towards the door, it felt like someone was standing there watching me. I have never seen a ghost or a spirit and don't know if it's real, but it freaked me out. Could there be someone there?

Yes, it is very possible. Whether we believe in something or not has nothing to do with whether it really exists or not. When you say "we" I assume you are married? Has your spouse or whoever you share the home with experienced anything unusual as well?
If activity persists around one area of the home and you question whether it is really happening or not, I suggest you set up a video camera there and see if anything might manifest. This is entirely different than trying to contact it, something I must strongly suggest against.
Events happen in homes that can open spiritual activity. Sometimes these spirits just want to be left in their home, sometimes they want to contact us. I believe all of these are not something we should toy with.

Hi Hauntinghelper
Yes, I am married, but for the most part my husband does not believe in ghosts or spirits. BUT - he can not argue the fact that he has also heard strange noises during the night. For instance, our radio next to the bed will switch on by itself, and there's a couple of times he has jumped up to investigate noises coming from the kitchen. Like something being dropped or cupboard doors being closed hard. Also the cupboard door in the hallway never stays closed. I have so many times asked him not to leave it wide open, and then he tells me he was nowhere near the cupboard. My 5 year old son also woke up one night in December, screaming uncontrolably, telling me that he heard someone whispering in his ear. We have never discussed this in front of the kids as we don't want to alarm them. He suddenly wets his bed, which he has never done before. We got him a night light to see if that won't take the fear away of the dark, but he wakes up screaming at night for no reason. I will follow your advise and put up a camera, to see if we can detect anything out of the ordinary. Thank you.

Believe, everything you are mentioning is perfectly in line with how spirits like to manifest in a home. I believe they do this type of activity for two reasons, one is to let you know it is there, and two to possibly instill fear into parts of the family. It is not uncommon for one spouse to get all the activity and the other to never hear or see anything. Again, I believe this is a way for the spirit to divide a family and cause problems in an otherwise peaceful home.
I feel much pity for the children that get involved with these things as it is a fear they should not have to know. There still may be some normal explanations for the things going on, but everything certainly sounds like you could have a spirit.
Are you a religious person/family?

We are religious yes. Not overly so, but we go to church on Sundays, and me and my husband pray together each night before we go to sleep. We also pray with the kids before we tuck them in.
Why do you ask?
I am so fearful at this stage, that I don't even want to get up at night to go to the bathroom, as I was stopped dead in my tracks the one night with this image standing in front of my cupboard door. I sleep badly and I have circles under my eyes. It's really starting to affect me. And the noises in the house is not only limited to the night, I hear it during the day as well.
Do you think it's a good idea to have the house anointed (blessed)? I don't want to upset or make this spirit angry in any way.

No, I do not think it is a good idea to have the home blessed. For one thing, I have heard of more failures than fixes when it comes to blessing a home for the sake of removing a spirit. The second reason I don't suggest this is that blessing a home does not address the problem at hand. It's simply the wrong step to take.
Do you know anything about the history of the home? Has any sort of occult activity taken place there? Even things that seem harmless and fun such as a ouija board being played or a séance to contact the dead. Has anyone played with anything like that in the home?
I ask about the religious nature of the home because more or less it is going to be a religious fight. Many people don't realize this, but the Bible tells us much we need to know about confronting evil spirits and how to handle them. You might be surprised at this, but praying/asking for God to remove these things is not really the correct way to handle the situation. Christ tells us that one of several reasons prayers don't get answered is simply because we are asking incorrectly.
What kind of church do you attend? Are they open to this sort of activity? Meaning, will they believe you?
