What might be some effective ways to deter phone solicitors?
Registered for the national 'Don't Call List' twice - not effective! Always ask to be removed from their calling list - not effective!. Etc...

I know your pain. I have the same problem. There is no easy solution. What we do is
    1) not answer our phone unless we know who it is, and
    2) block numbers from calling us once we verify that they are telemarketers.

And occasionally we just have fun with them: Answer the phone and tell them that we are destitute, and ask THEM to send us money.

Love RickJ's ideas. If you find a way to block them, let me know. I have also tried EVERYTHING but nothing works.

I have a dedicated fax line and get between 3 and 5 hang ups a day - so it's someone using a dialing machine.

Tell them you will see if you have enough money when your welfare check gets in.
    Almost always "click"

    I honestly do that.

    I like that.

My best friend, when she has the time, repeats everything THEY say. They say, "Hello, is this X?" and she says, "Hello, is this X?" She's frustrated the operators so badly that they have sworn at her.

I realize that telemarketing is a way people support themselves, but there MUST be a middle road here!
