Living and working in NJ, but as a mistake my company paid my taxes to New York City
Hello during 2011 I lived and worked in New Jersey I reported my address change when I moved but my company never changed it and continued paying taxes to New York City and New York State. How can I fix it and what forms do I have to use?

    Thanks a lot!

    1. Make sure that your company's HR payroll department has your correct address.

    2. When did you move from NYC to NJ? If in mid-2011 you will file a part-year resident retun for NY (use NY form IT-203) and a regular resident return for NJ (form NJ-1040). Complete the NY return first. If your NY wages are most of all of your income then chances are that you will have little or no income tax owed to NJ. You should also get a nice refund on the excess NYC resident tax that they've been withholding.

BTW - didn't you notice that they continued to withhold NYC tax from your paycheck?
