Taxes of living in New York and working in New Jersey
I live in New York City but I work in New Jersey. I'm married with two children. I'd like to find out about what are my taxes for New York City and New Jersey State? Also, any advise for me for the next tax year on what to withhold from my employer?

    Thank you.

Your employer should be withholding NJ tax. When you do your taxes you first complete a NJ non-resident income tax form to calculate what you owe NJ as a non-resident. Then you do a NY state resident income tax form. The NY State form will have you calculate taxes you would owe if you worked in NY, then give you a credit for the amount of taxes you paid to NJ. The result may be that you still owe some NY State (and/or NYC) taxes, since I believe the NY state tax rates are higher than NJ's, and especially if you have any other sources of income (interest, capital gains, your spouse's wages, etc.)

Agree. You will have to withhold BOTH NY and NJ taxes.
