Because of the amount ordered to be deducted from dad's pay check, he cannot afford to pay his rent and buy gas to go to and from work or even drive to pick up his son every other week. What can he do? His rent is very reasonable but his paycheck is too small. He works 40-50 hrs per week.

Was there a change in his situation since the order of support? If so, he should contact the court for a review of his situation and request a change in his support. In conjunction, he might need to take another look at what his other expenses are.

Unless he has back child support also being paid, normally his support will be about 25 percent of his pay, but each state has its own system to set the amount.

If he is paying too much, he needs to have it reviewed. Has his earnings changed since it was set, did he give court proof of earnings when it was set at first?
