I have a 13 month old baby that I weaned 2 months ago. My period returned when he was about 9 months old and was pretty normal--very little PMS, lasted about 4 days, mostly medium to light flow. Then at 11 months old, I weaned him. All three periods since weaning have been progressively heavier and more painful. I'm getting some nasty back aches that are causing problems sleeping. I've also seen several small clots. So, I wouldn't probably worry too much, but my mother had to have a hysterectomy at age 26 or 27 because of heavy bleeding that eventually just turned in to hemorrhaging--of course, this was about a year or so after a tubal ligation--which I've heard isn't uncommon. So, two of these heavy periods and I didn't think too much about it, but now that the third one was even heavier than the previous two, I'm concerned. Are these heavy periods normal? Is my body just adjusting to hormone levels? 'Cause this kind of sucks:D !

It could really be a number of things. But to be sure, you need to make a doctor's appointment. Only your doctor knows your history and can do a complete exam.

Please make an appointment on Monday to get yourself checked out. This could be normal for you, but you should err on the side of caution and get checked.

This could be normal for you, while it would not be normal for other women. It is just too hard to tell you anything different over the internet. Only your doctor knows if this is right for you or if there is something else going on, that is why I suggested this.
