Why won't my wall switch shut off my new light? All my connections are correct.
I have the white wire connected to one wire from my light. I have the red and black wires connected to the other wire from my light

Well, you have the red AND black connected to the light? Then you obviously do not have it wired correctly.

What wires are in the ceiling and what wires are at the switch box?

If I had to guess (considering how little info we have to go on) I'd say you need to use only the black or red from the ceiling, not both.

At the switch box the black and red are connected to the switch. At the ceiling box there is a white black and red as well as a ground.

There has to be more wires in the switch box, but I assume that the black is carrying constant power to the light box.
Use the white, red and ground in the ceiling and you should be fine.
