Do not like ear piercing placement on my 1 year old
My daughter just turned one year old and I had her ears pierced when she was five months old. The girl at Piercing Pagoda marked her ears numerous times until I thought I was happy with the placement. She has had the same small studs in since. Fast forward to today when she received a new set of diamond "cuff" earrings and I tried them on her. Once the new earrings were on I could immediately tell that the piercing was done too far back on the lobe, which was what I thought when she first had them done. Since she is still very young, if I take her studs out, will her ears close enough to have them re-pierced closer to her face without interfering with the closed piercing? I have no problem waiting a year if they would close completely.

How about waiting 10-12 years and let her decide what she wants and where. Sorry but I will chime in a opinion after watching what I can only call almost child abuse to my opinion today at Walmart, a child about that 1 year. I have never heard such screaming and crying in my life.

Well, while I respect your opinion, Chuck, I have two other daughters with pierced ears who thoroughly enjoy wearing their "girly" earrings. They too had their ears pierced when they were infants, no crying, no hysteria. All of them had it done with the piercing gun and survived without a scar. I never even knew Walmart pierced ears. At this point, I am looking for answers from Moms that may have had a similar experience and what they did, if anything, to rectify the situation.

I think that you are in for a long wait. I had my daughter's ears pierced at one by my pediatrician. Once she lost an earring, I just took out the other ones and let the holes close up because she was at the age where she wouldn't be able to resist playing with them or trying to pull them out. We had them re-pierced when she was five and asked if she could have a pair. At that point, she was mature enough to understand that she couldn't touch them or play with them. A one year old is going to feel something that hurts in her ear and try to rip it out. She can injure herself pretty badly.
I don't think anyone can tell you if the hole will close completely. I have a piercing that I have never worn earrings in regularly and it is still open ten years later. My daughter's hadn't closed completely, so the same hole was reopened when she had her ears redone. If you choose to re-pierce them, please have your pediatrician do them. The only thing that bothered me about this question is that you had them done at a piercing pagoda. In a lot of cases, these employees are teenagers or college students. An earring is technically a surgical implant that carries an infection risk. Do you really want a part time seasonal worker in the middle of a mall sticking sharp objects into your child?
(Chuck, this may be a cultural difference...where I am from, it is common and almost expected for baby girls to have pierced ears...earrings are a common birthday gift, and I still have the pair my grandmother bought me when I had mine done as an infant).
