I locate people for law firms. I am SHOCKED that the Court would use on line (pay) people search engines, "reaching out" to the Grandfather, Fcebook and My Space messages as sufficient proof that legitimate attempts had been made to contact and notify the father.
Not in NY where you need an Affidavit by an LPI or someone with similar credentials that the person could not be located. That involves Court records, Driver License searches, DMV searches, tax records and so forth.
I think sufficient attempts to locate the father were not made. I see, if the father pushes, the adoption being overturned or, minimally a motion - if he cares, being filed to overturn the adoption. Someone knew where he is/was - and it appears the Child Support Unit wasn't asked if they had an address on him. If they didn't, they found one.
I'm not sure how straight forward and legal the adoption was. Curious to see what my colleagues think.
Amazing!
