    If an 11 lb ball being pulled away from a pole at 30 what is the tension on the rope
    11 * 2.2 = 24.2
    t = w ma = m(g a)

    fn mgcos(30)
    or w (24.2)(9.7) = 237

    fn = mgcos(30)

    Lynn: sorry, I'm not following what you are doing here. It seems that you may have tried to cut and paste your entry from another PC application Word perhaps?), and unfortunately that doesn't work well on this site. Please edit your question to clarify it for us. Also, when showing calculation please include units. However - if "fn" is the tension in the rope then you should have W/fn=cos(30) , or fn=W/cos(30).
