My intake vent is hot on my direct vent fireplace?
I have a direct vent stove installed. I'm curious how hot should the intake air pipe be? The run is about 18" and it has a rise of 1/8" to 1/4". There is a 6" fixed piece, a 7-12" adjustable piece which is at about 9" and the termination. When checking down the adjustable length I minimized any gaps because of ovality and seems... Wish it was perfect but assume this must be common. Should outside pipe get hot and if so... How hot? Given the over lap, rise, fit, and short run... I'm wondering if the pipe should be warm or hot... Or super hot

I am assuming you have a double walled pipe, intake and exhaust. Some conductive and radiant heat will always transfer from the inside pipe, exhaust, to the outside pipe, intake. With a short length, it will be hotter than a long vent since there is less surface to cool. I went and felt mine. Superior, full glass front, direct vent. The pipe was hot and I wouldn't keep my hand on it, 130F? but not overy hot in my opinion. Mine vents only about 8", nat gas.
