    What is the proper height to hang a candle wall sconce going up the stairs?

    Up to you, mount the light so it will not be an obstacle.

    High enough so that you can change it without a ladder or falling. Don't hang it at all on a staircase if someone might bump into it. Be sure it's easily removable too, for any furniture moving.
