By rewiring,do u mean running new wires from panel box to switches and outlets?

Do u have circuit breakers or fuses?

If breakers, check to see if one has blown. To reset u may have to move breaker to off position first.

If fuses, check to see if electrode strap is broken. If so replace fuse.

Usually when a switch controls an outlet it does not also control a light. A lot of times the fan and light on the unit are wired hot and are turned on and off by a pull chain switch.

Where is the power for the light? By your description it is in the light. If this is so you can not use the same switch for both the light and the outlets.

How many wires are in the light/fan box? How many wires are in the switch box?

Let us know and we can help u.
