How to clean an aerator tank
I'm moving into a rental home in Sarasota, FL. The home is on a well with an aerator tank feeding a water softner before going into the house. The aeration tank is "DIRTY". Specifically it has what appears to be a build up of iron and who knows what else. Is there a best practice for cleaning the tank and the plumbing from the tank and into the house?

Greetings from your neighbor just North of the airport on the Tamiami Trail. Shut 6the pump off and drain the tank. Then take a stiff brush and a bucket of half bleach and half water and climb in and scrub the tank down. Rinse well before refilling the tank. Good luck in your new home. Tom

    Thanks Tom... One more ?

I've heard of hanging a basked under one of the mist valves (1 of 3 in my case) and inserting a chlorine tablet. Thus allowing for just a bit of chlorination. Is there any value/harm in doing this?

While chlorine will kill bacteria it will not remove dirt. If you have no dirt built up at the bottom then your basket's the way to go. If the tank's dirty then scrubbing and removal would be the way to get it clean. Good luck, Tom
