    Utility sink using overflow pipe
    I would like to install a utility sink next to my stacked washer and dryer. The washer has a drain pipe next to the water valves in the wall. On the floor, there is a overflow pipe that the is supposed to be used with a drain pan that washer sits on top, but I am not using it. Can I use the overflow pipe in the floor for the install of the utility sink? Do I need to modify it for venting or code issues? Thanks, Mark

    You lucked out! The washer stand pipe is already trapped and vented. Simply cut in a sanitary tee and connect your sink to that, You won't even have to trap the sink as a trap's already in p-lace. Good luck, Tom

    Tom, Thanks for the reply. I have no plumbing experience, so just so I am sure I understand... when you say the washer stand pipe, you are talking about the drain pipe next to the water valves in the wall(the washer hose is currently draining into this)? You are not talking about the overflow pipe that is sticking out of the floor? Thanks again!

    I'm talking about connecting your sink directly to the pipe the washer hose drains into. Good luck, Tom
