    You must remember that boys develop slower than girls as they generally have more interesting things to be doing.
    At this age it all sounds perfectly fine.
    There's nothing to do, but keep on with the encouragement.

    At 1 year and 10 months, if his pediatrician is not concerned, then I would wait it out. It could simply be selective hearing (1 and 2 year olds can do it too)

    If by 2 years he is still struggling, speak to his pediatrician about your concerns and see what the doctor says.

    As for the words, every child is different. When one child of 2 years is speaking 20-30 words, another child of 2 years could be speaking very little.

    Again, trust your child's doctor. Many children CHOOSE not to speak often until later.

    Do you have other children? Or is this an only child?

    Just reading it sounds liike perhaps a hearing loss or issue ( maybe) sounds are at different levels, speech is not the same as horns, music and so on.

    If you are concerned see a doctor about your concerns. There are many programs out there that will encourage parents and teach them how to encourage speech process. Tips on how to get them to respond. If he is responding to other noises doubt there is hearing loss but just in case to be proactive you could arrange to get his hearing tested to rule that out.

    As Curlyben said earlier. Boys do develop differently. They are slower then girls in the speech development area. It does not hurt to get him to be tested for hearing issues. It will not hurt to get your doctor informed on your concerns just to keep an eye on his development.

    Good luck with your adventure as a parent. (;
