    Sick Beagle puppy
    Hello all,

We bought a beagle last week approx. 5 months old. He went to the vet, had a clean bill of health. However, since he came from a store they gave us albon as a precautionary measure. About 2 days after, he started getting lethargic, then the next day started to dry heave. The dry heaves didn't last too long, and then started again the next afternoon. He was fine in morning and then got much worse later on. He vomited his dinner and started shaking very bad, so we took him to the ER. There they gave him some fluids for dehydration, and some meds Metoclopramideand Metronidazole. The trip and the fluids seemed to calm him down a bit, but he still is not very hungry, not active, not drinking, and is vomiting, but only liqiud, not food. There were some circumstances that all happened the same day he vomited his dinner... we had the house sprayed for termites outside(he stays inside except to use the restroom), it was his first treatment of frontline, and he decided to bit into a weed, but did not eat it. If anyone has a good guess as to what could cause these signs and symptoms, please let us know. THANKS!

The safest thing would be back to the ER. You might try this diet and see if he stabilizes by tomorrow. If by tomorrow afternoon, he isn't keeping it down, better hit the ER again.

    Bland recovery diet for dogs.

3 parts cooked rice, one part boiled hamburger or chicken, or cottage cheese. I think you can substitute boiled potatoes for the rice. Once in an emergency, we bought a plain baked potato from Wendy's.

This is meant for short time settling a dog's digestive tract. It is not the complete and balanced they need long term.
