    Jumping Beagle puppy
    Hello Eveyone

I have a 9 month old beagle (roscoe) and a 3 yr old Cocker Spaniel (Sophia). Every time I let them outside together Roscoe will not stop jumping on Sophia. How can I break this?
I'm afraid he will hurt her if this continues.

    Any Advice is greatly appreciated

    Thanks!

Get him neutered if not already. It is no cure all, but very important. Then take over as top dog. The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Start at http://www.dogsbestfriend.com/ Also apply these rules to him http://www.dogbreedinfo.com./topdogrules.htm

Puppies will be puppies... and I know from experience in raising Shelties for 10 years and now having a 12 year old intact male Sheltie (Ruger), 6 year old neutered Boxer (Dexter)and 1 year old intact female Weimaraner (Grace) that when Sophia has had enough, she'll let Roscoe know. Ruger has a permanently cloudy eye from Dexter "boxing" with him when Dexter was a pup. When Ruger had had enough, he finally grabbed Dexter by the neck and stood over him growling.

Every once in a while when either of the boys have had enough of Grace being rambunctious, I'll see the three of them rolling around growling and barking. Dexter is the most laid back dog you'll ever see, but when he's sick of Grace jumping on him or trying to play with him, he'll growl at her and sometimes nip at her. None of them have ever gone so far as to injure one another.

If you think Sophia is in real danger of being hurt by Roscoe, you can always try a shock collar. But, that'll take A LOT of watching and effort on your part.

My advice is to let them be and let Sophia "teach" Roscoe proper dog etiquette.
