Sears is well known for going after shoplifters (sorry, but you knew you don't take items out the door, and the part about the baby who wasn't with either of you just makes it worse) and they tell you to pay a big fine of hundreds of dollars or go to court. Your choice.

In Canada it is very possible the police will send you a written notice at home, as to when and where to go to get your photo and finger prints done. Then you will be assigned a court date.

If you get notice for photo and prints please get an attorney.

The store may also send you a civil penalty to pay, normally around 500 dollars or so, for their time and trouble.
