What kind of coil are you talking about? Is it an "A" coil that sits on top of the furnace, or a heat pump or AC air handler? The A coils are made by different manufacturers and have a name plate attached on the front of the coil itself. If it's an A coil you need to pump down the unit by closing off the high side valve and running the unit until you have zero pressure on low side then close the low side valve. After you have zero pressure in coil you cut it loose or take off the flare fittings, whichever one you have and put caps on all lines. Then remove the coil and remove the drain pan. Then put coil cleaner (alkaline type) on coils and pressure wash. You may be able to seal up the drain pan and coat with a tar sealant to prevent any leaks. Put it back together, vacuum out coil and lines, pressure test, and re-open valves adding any freon lost. You can usually buy the whole A coil new for about $200-300 at a supply house and save a lot of trouble. You can bet yours is full of dirt if it has rusted out because I always clean them yearly and repaint the drain pans to prevent leaks, but they have plastic replacement pans, too. Good Luck. This an A-coil with plastic pan that warped from too much heat. The label has m/n and s/n and some other numbers but no name of the manufacturer I've looked all over.

You will just have to take the pan in to a dealer to see if you can match it with a sheet metal pan. They sell universal pans that fit any model with the same dimensions. If the coils are clean that should fix it. DrTom4444
