Long ago soft drug conviction - Schengen zone residence application
I have just started two companies in a Schengen zone country. I am returning to my country of origin to apply for residence, which would normally be a fairly straightforward procedure. So far so good. Except I have a marijuana and hashish possession conviction dating back more than 25 years. Can anybody advise if I would be likely to be refused the right to legal residence on this basis? I haven't even brought it up with the immigration consultant handling my relocation yet, because frankly, I'm embarrassed to have a record for something so lame and amateur. I will fulfill all the other legal criteria as an immigrant but some countries inside Schengen are tougher on these things than others and the one I am applying for residence in takes a very dim view of even the so called 'soft drugs'. I'd appreciate any advice you chaps can offer. Not to whinge, but I am losing a bit of sleep over this.

    Hello D:

I don't know where the Schengen zone is, but it sounds like a good place... Even in the US, situations are overlooked if a lot of money is involved... I'll bet that the officials in the Schengen zone are amenable to your companies... The more money put in their hands, the more amenable they might be.

A local lawyer might help grease the way.

"The Schengen Area comprises the territories of twenty-five European countries that have implemented the Schengen Agreement signed in the town of Schengen, Luxembourg, in 1985. The Schengen Area operates very much like a single state for international travel with border controls for those travelling in and out of the area, but with no internal border controls.

Felony Conviction on an Application [ 1 Answers ]

Hello, I need advice. I am doing a job search and a company I am interviewing for asks on their application if I have EVER been convicted of a felony. I had some convictions 20 years ago, but nothing since then. Do I have to disclose this information on the application? Is it legal to ask...
