Can I file abandonment charges in Florida for my kid's absent dad?
Hi. I live in FL and my twins' father has not been around for about two years. When he is around it is in and out of their lives. I have full custody of them both but I wanted to know if I can file for abandonment? I have no idea where he is.

    Thanks, Tiffany

Did you read this before you posted? https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/family...st-364259.html

No, you cannot file for abandonment. Even if you could it would make no difference - he's "not around."

Does he support the children? If not, have you filed for support? I realize you don't know where he is but the Courts can find him.

My child's father has not seen her for nearly 8 years. The court still says he has a right to see her, if and when he ever chooses to do so. (not holding my breath)

No, you cannot just have his rights taken away just because he is a deadbeat, you cannot file charges against him for anything, you cannot do much of anything except for work with the court system and child services the best you can.

I second Judys question on if he pays child support? I don't know where my daughters father is, but somehow they find him each time he tries to move away and disappear.

First read the sticky Judy linked to. Then come back and tell us what you really want. Abandonment may be a means to an end, but you have to define what the end is.
