    Dirt in well water system
I have a Challenger Series Diaphragm Well Tank Mod. #PC122R. My house is 3yrs old. The last 3 days I have had a red tint in the water of one of my toilets, now it is starting to show up in the rest of the water outlets. (I live in rurel Oklahoma City and we have red dirt here.) What are the likely causes and fixes? How do I drain and flush my tank or is it necessary?

A red bloom in any water system is not good and signifies that the water is not safe to drink; is contamined by fecal matter from whatever source; cattle or human.. You have had signifcant flooding in your area, as far as I can gather living in Ontario and reading newspaper. Your water is contaminated and not suitable for drinking. I don't know what to suggest considering the significant flooding. Have you had any warnings in your area about drinking water, etc.?

No flooding or warnings. It has been extremely hot and dry. We have been watering the grass a lot and I'm wondering if we might have reached the water table allowing dirt to get into the system. We are aware of the dangers of drinking the water and are using bottled for now. We need to resolve this problem ASAP for showers and laundry. Just not sure how to flush the system. Do I need to depressurize the tank and just connect a hose to the drain? Thank you for your quick response.

You may have a hole in the drop pipe. Run an outside hose (that does not go through any treatment system) into a white bucket to see how much is coming from the well. You may be able to clear it up by letting the water run at outside spigot for several hours to see if it clears. You may also be drawing a lot of sediment from the water table if it indeed has dropped significantly. I would have the well inspected after trying previous suggestions.
