My power supply is 240v ,bu I have a maytag 120/240 combo

I have a maytag stacker with one plug and the machine reads 120/240 (3 prong) but my power supply is 240 volts .please what do I do ?
I want ot start using mu washer/dryer combo but don't know how to go about it?

A straight 240 volt circuit would be two hots and one bare or green ground. A 120/240 circuit would also have a white neutral.

It is not possible to use a straight 240 volt feed for a 120/240 volt unit, a new 4 wire cable must be installed. And the 3 wire cord be changed to a 4 wire cord and plug with a matching 4 wire receptacle. Not sure of the amp size, probably 30 amp, depends on the map requirements of the washer/ dryer unit.

Thank you.am running the wire from the combo unit or on the wall.Also am I going to use a 4 prong plug.
I stay in the part of the world where the power supply is 240v and a 3 prong plug is operational... how do I go about it?

As I stated before, A 120/240 volt rated appliance will not operate properly on a straight 240 volt feed.

A 120/240 volt unit will use a 120 volt motor, and will need a neutral, along with the two hots and one ground.

Am really sorry to appear dumb!the unit only has one plug fro the two items(washer/dryer).

Where in the world are you located? You said you only have 240 volts?

If you only have 240 volts, you cannot use the 120/240 volt appliance.

You need to get a unit rated only 240 volts.

I was told there is a remedy.since the dryer works with 240v but the washer /controls work with 120v, I should think that a converter (but my faer is the one plug 'thing')might work because I have bought the unit already.

I need an expert instruction on what to do... urgent responses would be apprecited.

You can get an electrician to install a 240 volt to 120/240 volt transformer.

This is nothing a do it yourselfer can do.

I have to assume since your located in Nigeria, and you bought the unit there, and assuming this is a popular unit sold there, there must be a solution in your area.

How did you come to have this unit?

If you don't have to worry about code, I might, use a 240 to 120 volt transformer inside the dryer, connect the 120 stuff to the load side of transformer, not sure if the motor is 120 or 240 volts.
A heavy load on the 120 volt stuff would require a larger transformer.
I just saw where TK mentions they use a 120 volt motor. Don't know why we don't use 240 volt motors?
The controls/solenoids/timer.. would be the only load on the Transformer.

You would be best served by returning to where you purchased the equipment and asking for installation assistance.

The equipment/appliance was powered with 240volts,the transfomers in the two units are 120v while the filament(hot spiral rings) in the dryer is 240v,so I used a step down transformer to step down the voltage into the washer/dryer(120v) and connected the a wire to the filament form the 240v on the step down transformer as nuetral.
Guess that a lil' educative.
